Leads, deals, and activities — the entry point for anything before there's a paying customer.
Leads
A Lead is a person or company that hasn't been qualified as a real sales opportunity yet. Statuses: New → Contacted → Qualified (or Unqualified) → Converted.
Use the Convert to Deal button on a lead's edit page once it's qualified. This creates (or reuses, if the lead is already linked to one) a Party from the lead's name/email/phone/company, creates a Deal in your pipeline's first stage carrying that Party forward, and marks the lead Converted. The new deal starts with no expected value set — fill that in once you know roughly what the opportunity is worth.
Deals and the pipeline
A Deal moves through a Pipeline of stages you define (defaults seeded for every new tenant: New, Contacted, Proposal, Negotiation, Won, Lost). The Deals screen is a drag-and-drop Kanban board — drag a card between columns, or use the dropdown on the card if you're on a touch device (drag-and-drop doesn't work on phones/tablets, so every card has a "move to stage" dropdown as well).
A stage is flagged is_won or is_lost; moving a deal into one of those stages sets the deal's own status (open/won/lost) to match automatically.
Every deal has an expected value and a currency — this is what flows forward if you convert the deal into a quote.
Customers, vendors, and contacts are the same record
There's a single Party record behind a deal's customer, an invoice's customer, and a purchase order's vendor — a Party can be flagged is_customer, is_vendor, or both. Manage them under Parties in the sidebar (create/edit/search, filter customers vs vendors). This means a company you're selling to and later also buying from doesn't need two separate records.
Activities
Notes, calls, and tasks can be logged against either a Lead or a Deal (a polymorphic "activity" attached to whichever record you're viewing) — visible as a timeline on that record's detail page.
Visibility: Sales Rep vs. everyone else
A Sales Rep only sees leads/deals assigned to them (assigned_to_user_id). Sales Manager, Admin, and Owner see everything regardless of assignment. This is enforced per-action (create/view/edit), not by hiding rows silently — a Sales Rep who tries to open someone else's deal by URL gets a clear 403, not a confusing "not found."
Where this leads
Use the Convert to Quote button on a deal's edit page to hand it off into Sales-to-Cash — this creates a Quote with one line item carrying the deal's title and expected value forward. You don't have to wait until a deal reaches your "Won" stage to do this — sending the quote is often what gets a deal won in the first place, so the button is available at any stage.
